Kays, a Jacksonville resident, earned the national gold-level Technician of the Year award for his work in the technical operations field. Kays has been employed with Mediacom for 17 years.
Mediacom employs 4,600 people companywide.
Cricket Wireless is expanding its national retail presence by adding more than 200 Shopko locations across the Midwest, including Jacksonville.
“Putting Cricket on Shopko’s shelves gives us a deeper presence in the growing Midwest markets. It also lets us reach more customers – some for the first time,” said Dave Fine, vice president of sales and distribution for Cricket.
Memorial Medical Center will host a free seminar on minimally invasive spine surgery on Dec. 12 at the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation at 228 W. Miller St. in Springfield.
The program will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature Joseph Williams, an orthopedic surgeon with the Orthopedic Center of Illinois. He will discuss the latest technology, surgical techniques, spinal condition and results and recovery.

Statewide home sales shifted back into positive territory in October following several months of declines and median prices continued to make year-over-year gains, according to Illinois Realtors.
Home sales, including single-family homes and condominiums, in October totaled 12,796 sold, up 0.3 of a percent from 12,764 in October 2016.
The statewide median price in October was $185,000, up 3.9 percent from October 2016, when the median price was $178,000. The median is a typical market price where half the houses sold for more and half sold for less.
